Use
your Web Assistant Website Logs to determine where your customers
are coming from; links from other sites, search engines, or
if your advertising is driving them directly to your site!
Follow this guide to find this vital information quickly and
easily!
1.
Login to the Web Assistant portion of your BIRDVIEW web site
by clicking on the "Web Assistant - Restricted Access
Only" link located on the bottom left hand corner of
each page of your site
(Please
note: You will need the User ID & Password in order to
gain access. If you do not remember your User ID and/or Password,
please contact our Customer Support Department at support@birdview.com
for help.)
2.
Once in Web Assistant, select "Website" from the
menu bar, and then click "Website Logs".
Now
you will see graphical and tabular data regarding the usage
of your website, broken down by month. This first page of
logs will give you an overall idea of the activity of your
site for the past year.
3.
Click on the most recent month to see more detailed information
for that time period.
4.
Along the top of the page, you will see links to different
categories of data that are available ('Daily Statistics',
'Hourly Statistics', etc.). Click on 'Referrers' to find out
where your users are coming from.
-
'(Direct
Request)' represents those customers who have manually
entered your website address in order to reach your website.
The percentage of Direct Requests you have can be used
to gauge how effective your marketing has been for that
time period.
-
"Customers
that find your site on a search engine will have a referrer
that looks like one of the following: 'http://www.google.com/search',
'http://search.yahoo.com/search', 'http://search.msn.com/results.aspx',
or 'http://aolsearch.aol.com/aol/search'.
-
"Other
URL's will indicate where customers found a link to your
website, such as Franchise websites or local information
pages.
(Please
note: Any URL that begins with your website address and is
followed by 'birdview.net' can be ignored as a referrer, as
these are actually pages on your own site.)
By
altering your marketing campaigns each month, and then analyzing
your corresponding website logs, you can determine which marketing
styles are most effective at driving customers directly to
your website!
